Yashodhan Gharote is a current MSIL student. This summer, he completed an internship at Leap Orbit, LLC as a product manager and strategy intern. We spoke with Yashodhan to learn more about his experience.

What were your responsibilities as a product manager and strategy intern?

I managed the product RxGov, which is a prescription drug monitoring platform (PDMP). In addition, I also assisted with the software development life cycle and strategy for the product Convergent, which is a green field flagship product created for provider data management.

What did you learn from your experience at Leap Orbit?

I learned several things, including:

  • Managing time and managing people is a skill which should be developed by everyone.
  • Approach everything with an open mind. You never know which opportunity is going to come your way. In my case, I never applied to a single product management internship, yet here I am as a product manager learning everyday.
  • It doesn’t matter the amount of work big or small, the intent matters. How sincere you are with your work and having a sense of responsibility and accountability is what will help you a lot and certainly your effort and your ability to make a difference.
  • You are not always going to get an environment that you like or the perfect role, so the moment you realize it, accept it, embrace it, and work towards solving problems, you will create for yourself room to grow, innovate, learn and excel.
