Ennki Leo, second year MSIL student, visited Fiji and Indonesia this summer.

Enkki Leo is a second-year student in the MS in Global Innovation and Leadership through Engineering Program pursuing the Environmental Planning and Management Track. We caught up with Enkki to learn more about his experience in the program and his plans after graduation.

Why did you decide to pursue an MSIL degree?

I am particularly interested in pursuing a career in the renewable energy sector in the future, but my undergraduate degree is in finance. I believe that having an engineering background combined with my economic knowledge would make me more competitive on the job market. The environmental engineering courses in the MSIL program effectively supplement the background I need.

What has been your favorite course or experience throughout your time in the MSIL program?

The career guidance in MSIL courses left a strong impression on me. From meticulously refining resumes to detailed interview training, the professors in the MSIL program provided their most sincere guidance and support to help us tackle all job-hunting challenges.

I participated in the Baltimore-NYC program. Under Professor Foxwell’s guidance, we toured giant corporations like Bloomberg and Google, immersed ourselves in understanding many small local factories in Maryland, connected with our outstanding alumni, and gained amazing friendships among our program peers. The immersion program was absolutely a fascinating and worthwhile experience.

How did you spend your summer?

Since this might be my last summer before entering the workforce, I chose to spend it exploring cultures and natural wonders around the world. I lived with the local people in Fiji, experiencing their simple but enjoyable way of life. I also climbed Indonesia’s famous volcanoes, feeling nature’s unique charm. Experiencing the beauty of the world is undoubtedly a vital part of our lives beyond work and study. The world is so beautiful—it’s worth exploring.

What do you enjoy about attending Johns Hopkins?

I particularly love the architectural scenery of the campus. Strolling through the grounds brings a sense of inner peace. The fragrance of spring blossoms, the lush grass of summer, the falling leaves of autumn, and the drifting snow of winter all make one fall in love with everything here without even realizing it. We also have all kinds of events, job fairs, interest clubs happening all over campus. Everything happening on the JHU campus is so wonderful.

What are your plans after graduation?

After graduation, I hope to enter the renewable energy sector and pursue a relevant career. In the short term, I would like to find an internship in this field to build my professional experience and network. My time at JHU has fully prepared me for this career path.

Would you recommend the MSIL program to other students who are considering a postgraduate degree?

Absolutely recommended. If you wish to supplement your engineering background, if you seek a wonderful learning journey, if you hope to connect with alumni, at JHU in the MSIL program you’ll find all the answers.
